Is it possible to change the text bubble colour?

I know the “blue bubble green bubble” thing is important to distinguish between iMessage texts and SMS/MMS texts, but I am colourblind and they look exactly the same to me. Is there an accessibility feature to make them look different? Or at least can I make one a darker or lighter shade? There are colourblind options in settings but that changes all of the colours for everything, and it just makes it worse because it’ll make colours I can normally see fine look different or harder to distinguish.

No, those colors cannot be customized.

I would suggest using the Shortcuts app to create a shortcut that toggles the color filters so that you can differentiate the colors in Messages. By first running the shortcut, the color filters would be turned on. By running it a second time, the color filters would be turned off.

By judiciously naming the shortcut, you could even ask Siri to run it.

In the Shortcuts app:

  1. Add the action “Set Color Filters.”
  2. Tap the word “Turn” and choose “Toggle.”
  3. Tap the “v” icon next to the shortcut title (upper left) and choose “Rename.”
  4. Close the shortcut. It will be automatically saved.
