"Continue Watching" feature on the Apple TV app on the Mac does not work with streaming services not purchased with Apple Pay. This seems ridiculous as i often use my Mac for streaming and would very much like to keep a record of my viewing progress..

The Apple TV app on IOS and TVOS has a setting where users can have it connect with the other apps installed on the platform so it can integrate with the queue (and will switch over to playback with the 3rd party app).
On Mac it doesn't have the same app ecosystem, as such there is no setting for the TV app on that platform to connect to streaming services used outside the app and it will only show what is available directly.
