Subscription refunds and payment info

I was using family share not knowing that my bank information would be used for anything bought by others in the family. My brother bought a couple apps and when I caught it he disputed it right away. Within a couple days. I got an email stating the refund request was granted. But I can’t tell where it was sent to. There’s no information as to payment detail. It says refund will be sent to whatever was used for payment. But when I look at details in my family sharing, my brothers says he’s sharing location and then there’s a card. Mine says only location (NOW). He doesn’t have a card. I’m the organizer and somehow he has my card? There’s no information on the card that’s on file here and I’ve got 3 forms of payment all of which could have been used. I have tried to disable card sharing and am having no luck! I just want to know the details of cards used and where my refund is. Please help? This was a $250 refund that I don’t need just floating around in cyber transfer without knowing where it’s going. Thank you kindly for any information anyone can provide.

  1. If you turn on Purchase sharing in Family sharing your payment methods on your account are used to pay for purchases. That's the way Family Sharing works, and you are warned about this when you set up Family sharing.
  2. The payment method is determined by order in which you have them setup on your account. It will try to use them in the order they appear in.
  3. Once Apple approves the refund it can take up to 30 days for your bank or card issuer to reflect it on the account.
  4. Yes it will be refunded to the payment method that was charged. So which one was charged?, Where did you catch the charge?. You should already know exactly which payment method was used as you saw the charge on it already. It will be refunded to that payment method.

  • If you do not want members to use your payment method, then you need to turn off Purchase Sharing. That is the purpose of using that feature and it is not required for Family Sharing.
  • The card that is billed depends on what cards you have on your account. The order of the payment methods listed there determines which card will be billed. The top one will always be your Apple Account balance and if there is not enough money there, then it will attempt the next card in the list.

  • The refund will always go back to the payment method used, and you can see how long that may take and check on the status here.
