Identifying missing songs during iPhone sync from iTunes library

Is there a way to see what songs are not getting uploaded? As an example; I have 2738 songs in my library in iTunes but when I sync my phone only 2722 get loaded, is there a way to see the 16 that didn't load?

It somewhat depends on why they are not being added. Unchecked tracks are usually excluded from syncing, you could create a smart playlist that shows those. The "item" count for songs might incorrectly count say digital booklets or iTunes LPs when they should be excluded. Certain duplicates, where two or more entries in the library are connected to the same physical file, replace each other so that only one copy ends up on the device. Your library might include cloud links to unhidden past purchases that are not currently downloaded to your computer. Such cloud tracks cannot be synced, but must be downloaded to the computer first.

One possibility, if you have the patience for it, is to sync with a smart playlist that is limited to say 100 songs, ordered by artist. Sync that and check that 100 songs make it over. If not try to work out what is missing. Reduce the size of the list if needed and try again. Then experiment with different increments noting which new songs, if any, are missing from each sync. Try to identify some common feature of those tracks that might explain why they are omitted.
