What is causing my Apple Watch timer to pause randomly without cause?

I rely on my Apple Watch timer for my blood sugar testing and insulin. I have an Apple Watch Series 10 with WatchOS 11.6.1

Many times, though not every time, when I set a timer on my Apple Watch it will at some point pause on it's own. I know that several times it was not related to touching the pause button because I was sitting down typing not doing anything with the watch.

Would the crown or side button do anything to pause the timer? Is this a software bug?

I tested taking off my watch with an active timer and it does not stop it, so I do not know what could be causing it.

Any help is appreciated. This is a simple, crucial function for a $400 watch.

I just tried that on my Apple Watch Ultra 2, the double tapping gesture will stop the timer. Typing might be interpreted as a double tap sometimes.

Use double tap to perform common actions on Apple Watch - Apple Support

During some activities, Apple Watch might recognize the double tap gesture when you didn't intend to use it. You can turn off double tap, then turn it back on:

  1. Open the Settings app on your watch.
  2. Tap Gestures > Double Tap, then turn off Double Tap.
  3. When you're finished with the activity, turn double tap back on.
