How can I delete duplicate contacts on Apple devices without merging?

when I open up contacts, I get told have duplicate contacts. These contacts are from a long time ago and all I wanna do is get rid of them. I keep getting references to merging them either on my Apple, my iPad or my Mac error or the iCloud. Every Everything I can find is about merging contacts, which is not what I wanna do. Am I trying to do something against Apple’s standards? Is there any way I can delete merge contacts on any Apple device?
