Is There Any Way To Use Diacritics With The Amharic Keyboard ?

Hello, I normally use the Amharic keyboard with Gboard and it allows me to use diacritics with letters. When typing Amharic on my iPad, I noticed there’s no way to type this, for example, ም፟ or ዖ፞.

I was wondering if anyone had figured out how to type these out with the iOS keyboard.

You are right, there are no diacritics in Apple's keyboard layout. Also (unlike in MacOS) there is no way to make a custom hardware layout for iOS. So the only option is a 3rd party screen keyboard. You might also check the Keyman app

To ask Apple to add diacritics to its own keyboard, you can use

Have you looked at the 123 and #+= levels of Apple's Amharic keyboard? I seem to see at least ፟ there.

Does GBoard for iOS work right in Amharic?

If Apple's own keyboard is not complete, perhaps there is a better one in the App Store.

Also you could use a hardware keyboard, which usually should be able to make everything.

I should’ve clarified a bit more. So, I use a hardware keyboard (Logitech) and the Amharic keyboard setting is ‘automatic — Amharic‘. And for Gboard, I only use it with my phone (Google Pixel) because the Android version offers way more languages, keyboard options, etc (which are strangely unavailable in iOS).

The hardware keyboard doesn’t seem to have any long-press or shift + options for diacritics. I can use, for example, SHIFT + S to make ፅ rather than ጽ or use SHIFT + … to make any other consonant-vowel syllable combination, but no luck with diacritics.

I’ve attached an image of how it works on Gboard for Android (by long-pressing the ፤ key) to give a better idea of what I mean and the difference from the iOS & hardware design;
