Ipad air fully updated crashing when using Amazon UK

I bought my wife an iPad Air 11" four years ago so that she was able to use Amazon mostly for ordering things. All has been well until recently. Cache cleared, all tabs shut history cleared VPN off, saved bookmarks cleared out and new Amazon one created. No matter what I do, Amazon continues to crash on either Safari or Chrome.

I use a MB Pro and have no such difficulties. She is not tech savvy so I look after it for her. I've tried everything I know to rectify this. I'm more than happy to go out and purchase the latest iPad for her if that will solve this issue. I'm loathe to spend £600 if it is still going to happen.

NO other website she looks at behaves in this manner. eBay, ETSY, BBC News, all perfect in both Safari and Chrome. It only started about three months ago. Her system is clean, no Malware, no virus, nothing on there. I used Bit Defender and put it on the iPad a couple of years ago for peace of mind.

Is there anything I can try please?

I have not seen any other reports that mirror your difficulties - and have not encountered any such issues when using various models of iPad running current or older versions of iOS/iPadOS.

If the iPad is not operating as expected, try a forced-restart - as this will often clear an isolated software issue:

Force restart iPad (models with Face ID or with Touch ID in the top button)

If your iPad doesn’t have the Home button, do the following:

  1. Press and quickly release the volume button nearest to the top button.
  2. Press and quickly release the volume button farthest from the top button.
  3. Press and hold the top button.
  4. When the Apple logo appears, release the top button.

Force restart iPad (models with the Home button)

Press and hold the top button and the Home button at the same time. When the Apple logo appears, release both buttons.

If the problem persists after performing the restart, it may be necessary to reset your iPad settings. While this reset will not cause any loss of data, as a precaution, it is always wise to ensure that you have a current iCloud or iTunes backup before performing the reset:

When you are happy to proceed, you can perform the reset from iPad settings:

Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPad > Reset > Reset All Settings

If the problem still doesn’t clear, the next step is to reset the iPad to factory settings:

Otherwise, you might be well advised to seek assistance directly from Apple Support. You can contact the Support Team using the Support link at top-right or bottom-left of this page. Alternatively and perhaps easier, you can initiate and manage your support cases using the excellent Apple Support App. If not already installed on your iPad, the App can be downloaded from the App Store:

You might also visit the Genius Bar at your local Apple Store or Apple Authorised Service Provider (AASP) - where the technicians will be able to assist with troubleshooting:

Thank you so much for the detailed response. It is indeed a bigger picture than I first thought with hundreds compaling about it with so far no known fix. As best as I can deduce it appears that one of the recent updayes 'may' have been responsible. One assumes Apple will eventually come up with a fix.

I will try what you have suggested but I'm not at all optimistic to be honest.

It can be easier to avoid installing unnecessary and oft-problematic apps.

Too often, the add-on security apps of this era are themselves all too reminiscent of being malware.

Some of the better-known anti-malware for Mac got caught collecting and reselling personally-identified web browsing and web purchasing data a while back. They got fined not because they were collecting that data, but because they didn’t disclose the collection and resale in so e obscurely-worded fine print many of us click right past.

Some other add-ons were blocked from trying to delete parts of macOS itself, too.

The add-on anti-malware on an iPhone or iPad can’t scan device contents too, and is limited to scanning network traffic and altering network routing.

Thank you again. I have now completed everything you advise including removal of Bit Defender on my wife's iPad Air.

It still is happening on both Chrome and Safari; Amazon crashes. No other site causes this problem. It would seem the problem is a worldwide issue for users of iPad Air and some iphones. I hadn't actually realised it was such an issue for tens of thousands of users.

All I can do now, is purchase a new iPad (but not an 'Air' version) and hope that cures it. Odd really, as for thee and a half years or so it has been perfectly fine. I wonder if a recent update has been the cause?

Yes, it is back to factory settings, updated and no AV or MWB. Still crashing when using Amazon. Not the iPad crashing, just Amazon UK. There is nothing wrong with Amazon as I use it on my MBP.

My iPad Pro is running iPadOS 18.6.2. Upon experimenting, for me the Amazon UK website loads pages without issue.

Same here. iPadOS 18.6.2 accesses the website just fine.
