I had to subscribe to Apple Music to regain access to previous iTunes purchases

So a couple of months ago a bunch of my purchased music, exclusively songs purchased several years ago, became unavailable giving me error that they were not available in my country or region (I am in US and all songs are still licensed to iTunes). I tried multiple fixes and had a 30 minute call with Apple who only told me that mine was a known problem they were trying to fix. Today, on a whim since I was offered a two week free trial, I signed up for a paid Apple Music subscription, which isn’t necessary to access previously purchased songs. Magically, once I synced music, all my music became available again. Do you reckon that if I cancel the subscription before the two week trial ends I will lose access again?
