How do I access iPhoto backup on my MacBook Air running macOS Sequoia 15.6.9?

I downloaded an Iphoto backup from Mac 1 in 2012 on an external hardrive. I am trying to access these photos on my macbook air running sequoia 15.6.9 I tried downloading the iphoto upgrader but it tells me I cannot use this version (8.1) on this mac (the article is closed by apple and last updated in 2023: iPhoto Library Upgrader 1.1 - Apple Support) I really want to access this library photos as they were pre-smart phone and the only place I have these photos (2006-2012)

You should make sure you have a backup of the iPhoto Library before you mess with it! You can try using File>Import in Photos to get the pictures. It should work, but you will lose events and organization, so don't delete the original.

The only way to keep organization is to use the trusted 3rd party app PowerPhotos ($35.) PowerPhotos has evolved from "iPhoto Library Manager" that we all used with iPhoto.

If all else fails, you can open the iPhoto Library and find the original pictures.
