Macbook Air M2, sealed in box, no date of purchase, no receipt. iCloud Lock?

Hi guys,

I would like to buy a Macbook Air M2, sealed in box, no date of purchase, no receipt of purchase.

She won it on a game (she says)

. The ad looks real, but I'd like to make sure that the Macbook is not stolen, nor iCloud locked.

If I can boot it up, log-in with my iCloud then it should be fine?

It's never been used, never been opened.

Thank you for your help!

I cannot recommend you buy this.

An M2 air is now two generations out of date. That could mean the battery has issues from non-use. A battery service in the US can be as much as US$200. No bargain there.

Also, the slightest feeling of discomfort with the provenance of any Apple device should have you running away. They are in high demand world-wide and fraudulent offerings are all too common.

Run. Caveat emptor!

Apple does not have records of stolen devices. You would have to ask law enforcement to "run" the number through a national search system, like NCIS in the US. If they get a "hit" that shows it is stolen, they will confiscate the product on the spot.

Yes, checking the serial number on the Apple site may show when it was originally purchased but, sealed or not, you won't have a warranty on a device that stopped being a "new model" 18 months ago.

Please decline that device. We are happy to have you here but no one wants to find out that your were scammed.

It's about iPads and iPhones but many of the points made apply to Mac computers.

Thank you, I got to that point in the afternoon.

Also, on one of the supermarket's website, I found Macbook Air M2 with 16GB+256GB, 50 euros more only than she was offering. Now I am a happy owner of an M2, (I loved my M1 too, which now is gonna be my girlfriend's), with Apple warranty. I know you said it's "out of date" but I don't want spend more money on a Macbook then that (800 euros), I use it to write sheet music and record some stuff at home (I am a musician). So for me this is a perfect little machine.

Thank you for the reply!
