How to get notifications about the location of my kid's Apple Watch SE 2

Hello all,

We just bought our kid an Apple Watch SE Series 2. The main purpose is to be able to track their location. While we are able to see the location of the watch in the Find People app, we are not receiving notifications when they arrive at destinations we've set up. It seems as though the notifications are set up for the location of their iPad rather than the watch. My kid is signed in with their iCloud account on both devices, but the iPad has been signed in longer, in case that helps.

Any advise would be greatly appreciated.
