Internal iPad SN identified as iPhone 4S after update

iPad was Unable To Activate after an update. While contacting apple for repair online, I entered SN from screen of the iPad, and iPad was identified as iPhone to my shock. SN at the back of the iPad is which corresponds to iPad 6th Gen 128GB and differs from the internal SN. How can this be? My daughter has used this for years without issues.

Original Title: iPad was Unable To Activate after an update. Realized internal SN is for iPhone 4S. How is this possible?
