How to move a marker when the Marker track is hidden?

In the Logic Pro User Guide, under the heading, Move a Marker to a New Position:

One of the suggested ways to move a marker states,

  • "In the ruler when the Marker track is hidden: Command-drag a marker left or right to a new position."

I've tried this and it doesn't work for me. Either it moves the Cycle bar, or if not on the Cycle bar, then you get the right-click (cmd key) tool. Even changing that to the Pointer tool still doesn't work.

How are you supposed to Command-drag a marker if it's not visible on the screen?

Can anyone explain this to me? It's a confusing instruction.

Thanks!

John

There are many ways to work with markers. You just have to find the one that suits you best. I use an alternative method, that works best for me, and I work pretty intensely with markers.

I usually create an empty software instrument track - actually, I have already one created in my default template. Place empty regions on that track, name and color the regions, then I use Navigation > Other > Create Markers by Region Selection. Done.

If I have to change or edit markers, I Open Marker List and delete all markers, edit the marker regions in the Main Window and Create Markers by Region Selection again.

This procedure, which is done quickly with only two key commands, give me the opportunity to handle markers like any other region in Logic like naming, coloring, editing length and position, using cut/copy and paste....

Good question, Ben. A question I was expecting. Lol

True, there are better proven ways to move Markers. It's one of the strangest instructions I've come across in the LP User Guide, so I wondered if I was missing something or if I should question Apple about this written instruction.

Whenever I'm reading the Logic Pro User Guide (or doing YouTube Tutorials), I always try the presented steps for the "hands-on" practice. It helps me learn and commit it to memory better. It's an old habit from when I was a Trainer in 1985-1990, teaching corporate and government employees how to use PCs and Macs (and developing and writing the training manuals).

It's my OCD insisting that if it's a written instruction, it should work or be removed from the manual.
