When you unzip a file on the Desktop, the folder no longer appears next to the original archive.

Since updating to macOS 15.6.1, unzipped files no longer appear next to the original archive on the Desktop. I’ve attached two photos for comparison: one from the earlier macOS version and one from 15.6.1.



This creates an inconvenience, as it was previously easy to identify which folder was unzipped from which archive, but now it has become harder to navigate.

This might all be in an effort to sort an old bug, where things piled up in the upper right corner.


You can try from the Terminal.app copy and paste:

defaults write com.apple.finder CreateDesktop true; killall Finder


report back your success or failure, we can all learn from your experience.



I also would verity other options are off, and by all means change the grid spacing/icon size and compare your results.
