Apple Mail emails automatically going to certain folders

I have a number of personally create folders in my apple mail and certain emails from different places / companies etc automatically go to them rather than my inbox. i need to change /add some and cannot work out how i did it and searching the web find no guides only that it cannot be done but i have it working on multiple folders. need some help please.
