Time machine restore fails to mount (but works directly on the system)

I'm trying to restore from a timeMachine backup, using the migration assistant it detected the NAS and the backup but gives a fail to mount.


I can access the backups from the Time Machine using finder and it shows them all.


I've tried going into recovery mode, there it can mount but when I select a restore point and try to restore it says I need to reinstall Sequoia (which I've already tried too).

Mac mini, macOS 15.6

and what was the original issue that makes you need to restore your mac to begin with...?
