scanning with brother printer no longer creates scanned jpeg or pdf file upon completion

after scanning, image appears and i select "save to pc"

"save to pc" window appears asking where to save.

i have always selected "desktop"; no folder name was necessary; i have even tried using a designated desktop folder.

i hit "save" - no scan file named "Scan2025-08-18-210244" appears on my desktop or in a designated folder on desktop.

this became evident after the os 13.7.7 software update.

i have reinstalled the entire os three times to no avail.

i even tried the utilities repair, but i am not sure it actually checked all of my applications.

attached is the brother prompts to save the file - but nothing further happens upon selecting "save"

That printer supports AirPrint and TWAIN, which means no added drivers and no added apps are needed, and macOS should be able to scan directly (via AirPrint or TWAIN) using Image Capture app.

What scanning software are you using? On Mountain Lion I used the Brother software but the one I had didn't look like the bits I see in your image.

On Sequoia I use Image Capture. At first I was disappointed but then I saw a button for more detail and all the old configuration settings were there. These included the destination folder for my scans.

i was able to input my ip address, but the scan "save" on my brother MFC-J1010DW still does not function.

I’d expect this AirPrint printer to show up automatically, without needing the IP address.

The name of the printer is the name you gave the printer in the printer’s settings. Or whatever default name Brother gave it.

Does the Image Capture app available on macOS work?

thanks mrhoffman, but the instructions for airprint require usb connect to my mac. we have a shared network and this option is not feasible. i am going to try and use time machine to get my previous saved version prior to the ventura software update and reinstall the old brother version.

That printer is Wi-Fi enabled, and AirPrint works via Wi-Fi.

Less-old versions of AirPrint also work via USB.

I’m not sure which directions you’re following, but — just as soon as that printer is connected to the same local Wi-Fi network — the Apple AirPrint drivers on all other Apple devices connected to that same Wi-Fi should detect and offer it as an available printer.
