How to prevent 2018 MacBook Pro with Sequoia 15.6 from starting upon lid-open or power-connect?

MacBook Pro

15-inch, 2018

(Has Touch Bar)

Sequoia 15.6

I reset the NVRAM and I’ve lost my setting to have the laptop NOT startup upon opening the lid or plugging in a power source (charger).

It still had the setting after upgrading to Sequoia 15.6 some time ago, but now this original terminal command I’d done doesn’t set up the “no startup” settings for lid-open or power-connect:

sudo nvram AutoBoot=%00

I found suggestions to try using:

sudo nvram BootPreference=%00

But that doesn’t work either. (nvram -p does show BootPreference set to %00)

Anybody know a way to get the “DO NOT startup upon opening the lid or plugging in a power source (charger)” set nowadays?

Thanks!

LeroyDouglas - Thanks for the idea to try setting the correct parm (AutoBoot, since mine is an Intel Macbook) to the default, and then changing again to turn it off.
sudo nvram AutoBoot=%03
then
sudo nvram AutoBoot=%00

That worked!

nvram -p did not show that parameter at all after I set it to %00 initially, so perhaps it took setting it to the default of %03 to get it in there at all? (I'll keep that in mind if I ever need to do an NVRAM Reset...)

So now it does show up with an nvram-p, and it does work after shutdown. Upon opening the lid, after a bit the battery percentage is shown, but then back to all black and nothing boots up.

Those are my happy findings, so again, thank you.

You can try the reverse and compare your result, to set back to default:

sudo nvram AutoBoot=%0

Then try again to disable the feature and test your command again:

sudo nvram AutoBoot=%00

Report back your findings.

I might be off base here so please excuse me if I am

According to Apple, the Terminal Command you have tried, should work provided this was an Apple Silicon Computer

A Mac laptop with Apple silicon automatically turns on and starts up when you open its lid or connect it to power.

As for Intel laptops, I do not have one to check this myself
