my child just turned 13 so now has more access to their Gmail account and so I helped him load his Gmail account on his new iPhone.problem is none of his email from Gmail is coming into the native mail app. We can see his Google calendars in the native calendar. What’s the deal? I can’t figure it out.

Congratulations on your new teenager! Seems you and / or your teen may need to sign-in to the 13 year old's GMail account online, and in the Settings there, give permission for the iPhone's Mail app to access GMail. Am grateful that Privacy and Seciurity are often well-protected, so not just anyone can create access.
