why is siri. saying hju instead of who

No, it’s a software problem! If you change the voice from British to American, it stops doing it and instead it says what do you want to say?

Apple software has a bug in it plain and simple and it needs to be resolved.

Is HJU in your contacts list, by any chance? I’ve been having an issue where Siri confuses common words with near-homophones from my contact list (eg, mail and Mehl).

No more HJU ! Once I changed Siri voice to American from British ! Couldn’t use WhatsApp or messages in car for a while now . Now fixed cheers 😀, come on Apple!

go to settings on I phone , select Siri and intelligence - change “voice” to something other than English - eg American . Problem goes away

apple voice for English is the issue - it will now work in car

I have the same problem with hju thing. So I change to American in Siri settings on my phone or in the car. Have no idea how to do it in car !

I think this is good advice and I wanted to add a reference to this standard/traditional route for providing feedback: Product Feedback - Apple.

Looking at the available options, I think this issue would fall under Hardware/iPhone (although I’m open to suggestions if someone sees a better fit).

This is happening to a lot of people so it’s not the contacts in the phone that’s the problem

Same here. It's definitely the language as it clears when I install another language. But for some reason it's not re-downloading the British again so the problem remains.

Thanks for the tips I've changed my language and will see how I get on.

Curiously I never had this problem with IOS 18 and my old iPhone 13. The 'HJU' problem manifested itself after getting an iPhone 16 and installing IOS 26.
