How do I filter out unwanted spam messages on my iPhone and MacBook Pro?

I get 10 times the number of SPAM messages every day than I get from contacts I want to hear from.

Is there some means to filter SPAM in Messaging like there is in Mail?

I get them on my iPhone as well as on my MPB, same phone numbers. Deleting one doesn't remove the duplicate either, I have to whack both which takes time.

I rigorously choose the BLOCK option, but that's not having any effect on the number of SPAM messages I get. Their number is increasing, I don't want to drop Messages entirely.

It's said that politics and religion are the two subjects one must never, ever bring up in 'polite' conversation yet those two subjects are what ALL the SPAM Messages are! What a waste, besides being an insult.
