How damaged is this iPad mini?
If it is so damaged that it is not usable, you will not be able to transfer any information from it to your MacBook. You will only be able to restore backups (assuming that you were making them) to another iPad, or to use your MacBook to access data that the iPad had been synchronizing to iCloud (e.g., photos stored in iCloud Photos).
