I'm trying to do a 3.1 or 5.1 mix for theatre projection. I'm having a lot of trouble with FCPX doing odd things. I need to find some accurate description of protocol, step 1,2,3, the use of Roles and Compound Clips.

Thank you for that. I checked. It's dated, a lot has changed. Apple instructions are only basic first level. I just made the executive decision to go into a 5.1 studio to mix the dang thing. I was toying with the idea of using FCPX to set the channels in the right place ... I only have a stereo speaker setup here ... and handing it over to the post studio to make the DCP for the theatres. yada yada. I was dreaming. Much appreciated.
If you don't have the appropriate monitoring system, don't do the mix, trust me. LOL! Yeah, I think you're making the smart move.
