Battery drain and overheating after iOS 18.6 update on iPhone

I updated phone to IOS 18.6 yesterday and the phone is now hot to the touch and battery went from full charge to 5% in about 5 hours. I have turned it off twice for several minutes but problem still exists.

Let it finish indexing the files from the update you performed yesterday. We see these same posts after every update and the phone will be warm and battery usage will increase while these background processes continue. Your phone will have to be on and it is best to have it plugged into power while it continues processing the update. Give it a couple more days. I would also recommend the Force Restart.

You should be charging your phone all night, every night, and use Optimized Charging.

i have an Iphone 16 pro max and it’s battery health is 100% but after a update to 18.6.2 the battery is draining too fast. Previously battery drains only 3-4% per hour and the phone lasts all day but now it’s drains more than 10% per hour and now need to charge my phone 2 times in a day. It’s been 4-5 days after update still facing the same problem. Also the phone is heating too much. What should i do?

This is not an indexing problem or anything similar. My iPhone 13 Pro Max was fine till before 18.6.1 as I was recharging it to 80 or 100% only once a day. Now since I updated to 18.6.1 and then to 18.6.2, even in airplane mode without blue tooth or wifi the phone battery charge keeps dropping. The speed at which it goes from 80 or 100 to 0 is at least twice as fast as before if not more. This feels much more like a sloppy update with no UX testing! I wouldn’t like to think anything nefarious is afoot especially given the uncanny coincidence with the release of the new iPhone, but one must wonder since something like this already happened with iPhones being slowed down deliberately perhaps to boost sales! In any case, since there are so many of us saying that this problem exists and not just on this site, it would be appreciated if you undo whatever was done to cause this.
