Sounds like a scam where criminals are using the threat of a bogus $999 charge to get you to speak to them. A criminal, pretending to be a "customer service representative", would collect information about your credit card or bank account that would be used to rip you off. Your financial information might also be sold to other criminals.


Hang up and don't give them anything.

I got this very same message this morning, so I Googled for more info and it led me to this thread. I suspected it was fake and blocked the number, but now this thread just proved to me that it is indeed a scam. I am beyond sick of these people taking advantage of others’ suffering. It’s like they have nothing better to do with their time. Normally, I would say “stop stealing from innocent people and get a freaking job,” but I know that right now, that’s much easier said than done.

The call screening feature in iOS 26 is awesome. I don't get this nonsense nearly as often.
