What does this icon mean? It appears just after the title of an email in the Junk file in Mail.
I do understand that a white version of this simply means Junk. But, what does the black version shown here mean?

Where exactly are you seeing it?
Next to the junk folder name? If so, it is just the icon for it, no other meaning. If you are in dark mode, it may appear dark.
In light mode, it normally appears in blue.
Your response isn't helpful, probably because I didn't describe the icon and its placement well enough. Here's a wider view:
See the black icon. That's what I am questioning. It appears in many items in my Junk folder. What does it mean?

Well, that's odd. I don't get that at all. And can't find anything about that.
Some posts suggest it may be an email that is in the process of being deleted, but that just odd, since deleted emails move to the trash folder immediately so no reason to be "on the process".

No. It doesn't do anything if you click on it. Sometimes it appears for items in the Junk Folder as I have shown and other times it doesn't.
Also, sometimes the type in emails automatically sent to junk by my computer are in light orange color, but usually in black. Can you explain this to me?
These aren't earth shaking issues, but I have been wondering about them for some time. I appreciate your interest in trying to help answer my questions.

Here is a screenshot of my Junk Folder with items which showed up since my last entry to this thread. Note it has both phenomena I am questioning: the black icon and orange-colored printing.
I remain curious about what these things are telling me. Will appreciate your further response.

I think I understand why some Junk File items are in light orange and others in black. It looks like the black-printed ones are from a previous day, and the orange-printed ones are from this day.
Still no explanation for the meaning of the black icon I started this thread with, after much research in Apple's Support sections on their website or apps. Interesting that no one on this thread seems to know what it means.
