iPad 11th gen won’t detect 5GHz Wi-Fi networks, only 2.4GHz appears

Hey everyone,

I just bought a brand new iPad 11th Gen (model A16), and it’s not detecting any 5GHz Wi-Fi networks—only 2.4GHz shows up. Here’s what I’ve already tried:

  • Resetting the iPad (multiple times)
  • Forgetting/rejoining Wi-Fi
  • Resetting network settings
  • Tried different routers (still no 5GHz)
  • Checked on other devices (my phone connects to 5GHz just fine)
  • Talked to Apple Support—they didn’t find any hardware issues

It connects to 5GHz only sometimes after a reboot, but once I turn Wi-Fi off and on again, it disappears. It feels like a bug or hardware defect, but I’m not sure.

Anyone else having this issue? Is it a known problem with this model? Would really appreciate any help or confirmation so I know if I should go for a replacement.

Thanks!

Users are advised to configure their router to combine the 2.4 GHz band and 5 GHz band (and optional 6 GHz band for Wi-Fi 6E or later) and into one logical network under one unified SSID network name. Then let devices connect to whichever band they prefer. This should give the best results.
