If I delete an MP3 file on my cell, will it be deleted from my Mac's hard drive?

I exported some MP3 files (voice recordings, not music) from my cell to my hard drive. Can I delete them from my cell now or would that delete them from the whole system?

Jojo,

Not sure how you are doing the "export," but if it ends up on the hard drive within the purview of Music, and if Sync Library is on, then yes it could be deleted.

To have peace of mind, find the MP3 on your hard drive and put a copy in a folder far from the Music library. Then whatever Sync does you will have that copy. Try it out with a test MP3 and make sure it is working as you expect.

If you have Apple Music’s Sync Library feature enabled, any changes you make to your music library on one device—such as deleting an MP3 file—will automatically sync across all your other devices that also have Sync Library enabled. This means that if you delete a local MP3 file from one device, the same file will be removed from your library on all other devices connected to the same Apple ID and with Sync Library turned on. This syncing ensures consistency, but it also means you need to be cautious when deleting files, as the removal is propagated everywhere.

Choose Music > Settings, click General, then select the Sync Library tickbox. Turn on Sync Library (iPhone, iPad or iPod touch). Go to Settings > Apps > Music.

Access your music library on all your devices

Open the Apple Music app and tap the photo icon Photo icon . · Open the Settings app. · Tap Music. · Turn on Sync Library. Don't see Sync Library? iPhone showing ...

Use Sync Library with your Apple Music subscription

OK-thank you. I exported to a file outside of iTunes or Music. It was a voice recording of an inspection which will live in real estate transaction files. So, I'm ok to delete in the Voice Recorder App?

Yes, that will be OK. Personally, I still suggest trying your plan with a throwaway MP3 to see how it behaves. Once you are satisfied, and before deleting the original inspection from the phone, make sure that you have the copy on the computer and at least one backup. Hardware failure is still a possibility.
