image in iMessage repeated multiple times and the original image is lost

I have an iPhone 13 mini, in my iMessages when I choose to view all the images from that person, all I get now is just multiple copies of one particular image, this repeats over and over again and I feel that the original image is either lost or corrupted now. It appears like as given below:

Updated to the latest iOS 15.6 now and this issue has been persisting for a couple of versions now. I dont want to delete any of the images as I am not sure if it will delete the original underlying image (clicking on the thumbnail just repeats the same image again and again when viewed in full screen mode) and I know I didn't receive that many copies of the same image, and this is not just one instance, it is across the board across all my contacts, only happens in iMessages.

Please help
