Option 1: Fresh Install via macOS Recovery (Internet Method)

  1. Backup your data (if needed) using Time Machine or an external drive.
  2. Shut down your Mac.
  3. Turn it on and immediately press & hold:
    • Intel Mac: Command (⌘) + Option (⌥) + R
    • Apple Silicon (M1/M2): Press and hold the Power button until "Options" appears.

  1. Choose Disk Utility > Erase your internal disk (usually named “Macintosh HD”).
    • Format: APFS
    • Scheme: GUID Partition Map

  • After erasing, go back and choose Reinstall macOS.
  • Follow the prompts to reinstall macOS Monterey.

Option 2: Create a Bootable USB Installer (Offline Method)

If you want to use a USB drive:

  1. Download macOS Monterey from the App Store.
  2. Insert a USB (at least 16GB) and name it MyVolume.
  3. Open Terminal and paste this command:
sudo /Applications/Install\ macOS\ Monterey.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia --volume /Volumes/MyVolume

After it’s ready, restart your Mac while holding:

    • Option (⌥) on Intel Mac
    • Power Button on M1/M2 Mac → Choose USB drive from startup options

Use Disk Utility to erase the internal drive, then install macOS from the USB.
