iPhone 15 notifications not appearing on Apple Watch SE

Just purchased my watch SE I have a iPhone 15 can you get notifications on your phone and on the watch is this possible I have paired the watch and switched on notifications for apps I want but seem to only get them on the phone and not the watch.
