MacBook Air 2020 M1 not charging after not being used for 2 years.

I've been given a MacBook Air 2020 M1 from work but the battery won't charge. To my knowledge, it hasn't been used for at least 2 years and probably longer, and certainly hasn't seen heavy use. I've tried changing the power adaptor and cable but that hasn't worked. I'm currently updating the software so if that doesn't do the trick I would welcome any suggestions.

I agree with Kilted Time but one long shot is to leave the computer on the charger for about 24 hours and then try again. Be sure to check the charging port to make sure it is not clogged with foreign material.

Also check your battery for swelling. Symptoms:

— Unexpected trackpad and/or keyboard behavior.

— The gap between the display and the deck is not even when the display is closed.

— The gap between the bottom plate and chassis is uneven in places.

— Some of the screws that hold the bottom plate have popped out.

— The trackpad surface is higher than the surrounding deck surface.

— The computer "rocks" a bit on a known flat surface†.

† — I find solid-surface and granite countertops very effective flat test surfaces.
