QuickTime Player audio cuts out while editing

While editing to remove unnecessary clips from QuickTime files I have recorded, the audio will cut out completely. I have to save what I've done so far, then close and re-open that file to have the audio. I am using QuickTime version 10.5 on a MacBook Air with Sequoia 15.5.
