Activity functions not working on Apple Watch SE

My son's Apple Watch SE series 2 (GPS only, not cellular) appears not to recognize any activity functions. None of the activity rings register move, exercise or stand activity. This appears to have occurred recently. When we do a walk, the time of the walk appears, but the distance does not. When we go to Bluetooth in Settings, the watch does not appear to connect with any other devices. Wifi is correctly set to our network, and, e.g., local weather appears.

Is this a GPS issue, a bluetooth isssue or some other?
