Is it just when viewing a particular website? Your phone does not have a virus, but many nefarious websites will have popups that are actually advertisements claiming you have a virus and want you to download software or subscribe to their service to fix a problem you do not have. Any website is also capable of directing you to another site without any interaction on your part.
Also if you are playing a game or using an app, it can open a website in Safari to display advertisements. So, in that case, does it only happen when using a particular app?
