Messages not delivered after adding international code on iPhone

I recently moved countries and sent a group chat via Messages (not iMessage) with my new number. Unfortunately I forgot to check contact settings to ensure the people in my home country had the international code and the message failed. I added the international code but messages still fail. I’ve tried removing them completely from my phone and re-adding them but this only worked for people in the group I contacted occasionally and I think not by calling. Everyone can text me and I can text others internationally. Any advice gratefully received
