MacBook dies of no battery at 100%

Hi.

my MacBook A1466 says battery at 100% on the icon but if I unplug it, it dies within 10 seconds.

if I try to start it again it gives me the plug-in/depleted battery symbol on the screen.

i plug it in and it starts up fine saying 90 something %

seems to run ok when plugged in

charger light is green at 100% but dies when unplugged.

very confusing

any help much appreciated.

Another thing: "A1466" was used as a form-factor identifier from 2012 through 2017, so it does not precisely identify your Macbook Air sub-model model. We need the bit with a year, from :About this Mac...". These are the options from the McTracker database.

A 2012 model is far more likely to have a failed battery than a 2017 model, and your symptoms suggest a failed battery. The sub-model may also affect whether Apple will still do a battery service on that mode.
