Apple Watch password reset loop preventing use

I can't remember my password for my iPhone. Not an issue, it lets me on this site using a Passkey and onto my phone using face ID. However, I just bought an Apple Watch. It wants the Password. I can't remember it. I have been through the PASSWORD RESET process 3 times. It takes passcode and credit card and phone number but tells me Apple will need to contact me by Phone or Text. It gives me a date and time. Nothing ever happens. After 90 minutes on the phone with an Apple Support person he concluded that the account keeps resetting so the Reset Password request never materialises. I'd guess because it keeps seeing that I am using my iPhone (because I log on with face ID) and decides all must now be well. It really isn't. I have been trapped in this loop for 3 weeks and unable to use my new Apple Watch and it is beyond frustrating. Do I take the watch back because it looks like I'll never get to use it. Do I reset my iPhone to factory settings and just start all over or will Apple actually help me reset my password ... I have a suspicion that **** will freeze over before the last option happens!!!! Help!

Do not reset your iPhone,

most likely that would turn your iPhone into an Activation locked iPhone.

Do you have more than one apple device?

If you start the account recovery from your iPhone using it should not stop the proccess

How to use account recovery when you can’t reset your Apple Account password - Apple Support

  • If you started your account recovery in Settings, System Settings, or the Apple Support app, you can continue to use that specific device during the account recovery period.
  • Regardless of how you started the account recovery request, you should turn off all other devices that are currently signed in with your Apple Account until account recovery is complete. If your Apple Account is in use during your request, your account recovery will be cancelled automatically.
