MacBook Air closed unexpectedly. Starts up briefly then fails.

When trying to restart, the prompts forced me to install fresh OS. Now it refuses to start up.

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 15.5

Thanks, Jack, that was helpful. I forgot to use the Recovery disc, so the machine loaded an updated OS, then told me it failed to complete. Left it alone for a while, then found it had finished the installation and was up and running.
