Original Title: firmware password

alternative—

Perform an Apple Configurator 2 DFU "Restore" and the firmware password will be removed.

the Restore will only remove the firmware password, NOT an Activation Lock.

verify you have adequate backups of your user data befroe you proceed. A restore will erase all data.

I will note: The firmware password is not required with Apple silicon Mac, the critical firmware it restricted and been moved into the RecoveryOS; and with FileVault enabled RecoveryOS requires user authentication before its functionality can be achieved.
