Can’t disable Game Center prompts on iPhone 14

Hi there,

Out of nowhere, Game Center keep showing up when I log into my NYT games app and asking me to log in. It appearing and asking me to log in started a few days ago.

In settings I have confirmed that Game Center is turned off and notifications for Game Center are turned off. I have turned off and restarted the phone several times since confirming that GC and its notifications are turned off.

I do not use Game Center and never want to use it. And I do not want to see it asking me to log in every time I go to NYT games (or anywhere else for that matter).

Can I delete GC? Is there a way to get the phone to actually accept that I turned and its notifications off and do not want to see it?

Lots of good info here about how this works, how developers use it, etc. Thank you to all who have shared this.

The bottom line is that I do not ever want to use Game Center and I do not ever want to see it exists--i.e., an app asking me to log in. Disabling GC and turning off GC notifications should, by what most people expect of the norms of turning off an app and disabling notifications, mean that one should never see this kind of attempt to log in.

As has been suggested, I can and will ignore the request to log in when I open NYT games.

Also, I would like it to stop.

I want Apple or NYT or whoever is responsible for this to fix it and not override a user's individual choice not to use a particular app and to turn off all its notifications.

It’s likely that NYT games uses it to store progress or some other game data. It cannot be deleted.

NYT however should not have automatically signed me in to GC when it enabled the interface.
