Is it possible to create playlists on iPhone without an apple music subscrition

All my music is from my ripped CDs. They are on my iPhone, but I haven't figured out how to make a playlist of a particular artists or genre for example.

For example I create a playlist, name it, search for artists, select a few songs, then tap on add to that playlist and nothing happens.

Thanks in advance for helping an old man solve this problem, Fred

To answer your question, yes, its perfectly possible to create playlists without a subscription.

The songs assuming they are available on the device should be added to the playlist when you do what you describe.

Are you sure they aren't being added. The screen won't change when you do so or offer any sort of confirmation, but if you go back and open the playlist any songs you add should now be visible in the playlist.

In fact if you try to add the songs again, it should warn you that they are already part of the playlist.
