Unable to give iMovie acess to the microphone under Privacy and Security

I'm using a Macbook Air (2022) running Sonoma 14.1.1. When I try to import video into iMovie it does not record sound, although I've selected the USB-C device as a sound input device.

From what I can tell by searching discussions here. I should be able to go into 'Privacy and Security" under System Settings, select "microphone" and see iMovie as an option in the right-hand column. However, the only applications that show up there are Zoom, Chrome, and Powerpoint. There is no option (no lock icon) to unlock this setting or add applications to the list. What do I do?

Applications are supposed to request access to the microphone when you try to use it.

When you try to record audio, do you get an alert that iMovie is trying to access your microphone?

Start by testing using the built-in microphone.

Select it, and press V to record a voiceover.

Does it record? If not, what exactly happens?

Note: to select an audio source, click this button next to the Record button:
