How to recover missing raw photos from Sony camera on iMac?

Its weird and random. My iphone 15 syncs with my imac and icloud flawlessly. However my raw pictures from my Sony camera do not. When I download from card through reader a bunch of the photos just dont load, I get a black square with a small icloud logo but for the life of me never get to see the picture so I can edit. This may or not be a result of upgrade, I’m not sure as it just started doing this in May of this year. Never had a problem before. I only shoot raw for obvious reason from my phone and from my camera but only the pics from the camera are affected. I can only assume these pictures are gone as I never get to see them after download. Any ideas ? Very frustrating as it just started happening, changed memory cards, changed reader, no resolution so far.

You didn't say what model camera-- every one has a different RAW format. If you are in fact running Monterey, then the support may just not be there. See this for the support on Sequoia:

Digital camera RAW formats supported by iOS 18, iPadOS 18, macOS Sequoia, and visionOS 2 - Apple Support

You can also look at System Information when you option click on the apple in the upper left of the screen. See Software>RAW Support. Be careful-- my Z8 is listed, but at the web site there are asterisks.

Is your Sony listed?

Gone? What is the file size-- is it near 0?

You can use Adobe's free Digital Negative (DNG) converter to make a universally acceptable RAW picture file. This is the format that Lightroom uses when it creates a new (edited) RAW file, and Apple and Photos supports it.
