Macbook to Tv via Hdmi wont work

Hey, so im trying to connect my macbook pro to my TV, and i get the "Choose to mirror or Extand from the (two suqares) menu.

Now- i know i can mirror through AirPlay, but then it doesnt run smooth on the tv/ i just want the tv to mirror my mac simply through HDMI like in the good old times.

i tried to disable Airplay on the tv but it still doesnt work.
