Can't use Apple Watch 6 as the screen pixelates, then goes black

My apple watch 6 screen pixelates, then goes black. it is still tracking activity & pinging message notifications but I cannot see anything or start workouts, etc. A hard reset results in a brief flash of my Home Screen, pixelated flash (like an old TV going out), then black screen. Any ideas?
