Big problem moving itunes playlists to a new computer

Followed apple instructions to copy itunes playlists via Library XML file to my new computer. But when I copied it I the names of playlists copied correctly, but none of the music was there--just copies of sports podcasts that I had never ever downloaded (i had never downloaded any podcasts) . Clearly Apple process is corrupt. Itunes music is useless if I can't use the playlists I developed over many years. What do I do?

Windows, Windows 10

I'm not quite sure I understand your issue, but when you export/import playlists using the XML feature, only the names of the playlist and names of the songs in that playlist are copied. Not the actual music itself. To transfer the actual music, see:

When importing data via an XML playlist file every track in that playlist must be at the exact path specified in the XML file. This is often not the case when content has been copied from one computer to another. Do you have a link for the article you followed?

See Move your iTunes library to a new computer - Apple Community for steps that should really do the trick. Importing an XML file may be a last resort when trying to move between incompatible versions of iTunes/Music, but careful preparation is required beforehand, and even when it works all date added information is lost.
