Can I capture/record 24bit audio stream from website on M2 MacBook Pro?

Hello,

I've come across a free streaming site with music samples in 24 bit audio. I wanted to know if I could capture these and play them back on an iPhone, but have them to keep as files on my MacBook Pro M2. Would I need a specific program to do this? Would I need any external hardware? Which format should these audio samples be recorded in, in order to obtain the best quality? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Save the capture audio to any filetype you like. Transfer copies of the audio files to your iPhone via Music sync, AirDrop or other method.

Thanks. Is there a way of knowing the MacBooks audio capabilities regarding the bit rate and sampling levels? Is it in a setting somewhere? I also have an iMac, but that's pre silicon and was wondering if it was as capable as the MacBook Pro M2

Recording internal audio on a Mac requires downloading and installing additional software or plugins to work properly. BlackHole Audio Driver (free) and Audio Hijack (paid) are two popular apps.

The detail settings for the files these apps create can be defined within the apps. Both are fairly flexible. In AH, the allowed bitrate for capture depends on the format of the audio file to be output. For example, the bitrate for AAC files can be defined between 16k and 320k. The rate range is different than that for MP3.

So you might visit the developer sites for each of these packages and explore their specs and marketing material. Maybe download the software and use the trial version before you make a decision.

Will either of these work on your Intel iMac? They have. Unless the developers have stopped supporting the older Macs then they still should. Check at the websites for system requirements.
