Natural Eye Contact keeps turning on in FaceTime after iOS 18 update even when disabled

After updating to ios 18 i noticed the Natural Eye Contact setting on facetime randomly appears during a call. Every time it happens I check my settings to make sure I didn’t turn it on somehow and, without fail, the switch shows the setting is turned off. How do I prevent this from happening? It’s creepy to look at and frustrating to not be able to control.
